| The Foundation seeks to support
projects that will have a meaningful and measurable impact and
return on investment. We are proponents of venture philanthropy;
as such, we seek to apply our business start-up knowledge to
our charity. We do not “give” money away, we “invest”
in charitable projects, and we seek a “return on our investment”
in the form of improved society. Before
we enter any project, we outline exactly how we will measure
this return and the success or failure of the venture. To
quote W.C. Fields, "If at first you don't succeed,
try, try again. Then quit. No use being a dam fool about it.".
If we don’t believe our investment will succeed, we
will not throw good money after bad, and we will not hesitate
to terminate funding.
The Foundation conceives, designs, and
implements its own programs. The Foundation also reviews entrepreneurial
grant proposals from registered Canadian charities for funding
consideration. We prefer to invest in smaller projects where
the opportunity for close collaboration and careful planning
will lead to the highest probability of success.
